The Guinea-Bissau Configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) welcomes the successful conduct of the legislative elections and the first round of presidential elections, held on 13 April, and commends the people of Guinea- Bissau for a historical turnout and for the peaceful manner in which they exercised their fundamental democratic rights.
This is a first and fundamental step towards restoring constitutional order and allowing for the resumption of full-fledged cooperation with the international community. The Configuration also reiterates its acknowledgement of the key role played by the UN and Guinea-Bissau’s main international partners that contributed to the holding of the first round of elections, as well as by all partners who have contributed with international observers.
